自少喜歡雜七雜八亂讀,尤其科幻及奇趣題材。但過目即忘,唯犹記得初中時期讀過的一扁文章裡指出,鑰匙及鎖的發明與槍械的發明無異,美其名保護生命與財產,實質是人性貪婪下之產物。若然人性中沒有貪婪,鑰匙及鎖亦永遠不會出現在人類的社會中,而人類的發展史亦必徹頭徹尾的和當下的世界不同。讀罷此文後對人性的認知才如夢初醒。人性本善,奈何活在七情六欲下,爾虞我詐,你偷我搶,當大難臨頭時更甚,人性光輝與英雄超人只會剩若晨星,大比數落後。
As far as I remember an article I read in middle school about the origin of keys and locks. It said that the creation of keys and locks is no different than the creation of firearms: Ostensibly they are created to protect our property and our lives, but in fact, they are created only subject to our desires of greed. If greed had never existed in man, keys and locks would never have been needed and invented. This reading was somewhat unrealistic and idealistic, but it deeply shook me and has since awakened my awareness of human nature.

於澳大利亞就學及建築系畢業後,回香港工作數年後移居泰國。泰國的生活節奏相對上比香港悠閒,可能是受到佛教中的寧靜所熏陶罷。在泰國民眾的佛家思想耳濡目染下,對佛學產生濃厚興趣,一股勁翻閱佛學書籍數載,試圖明白箇中真諦並寄望從中找到對人性與欲望更深一層的理解。
After graduating from architecture in Australia, I returned and worked in Hong Kong for a few years before moving to Thailand, a country under the great influence of Buddhism. Having lived in Thailand for a while, I gradually learned a little about Buddhism through osmosis, and it also sparked my interest in Buddhism with the thought of whether it could help me better understand the mystification of human nature that's been on my mind.

佛教並不像其它宗教,它不是一個信仰亦不要求懺悔與崇拜。佛學旨在揭示出世間的一切真相,有着一整套對生死及離苦得樂的理論。最常見的苦莫過於生,老,病,死與欲望中求不得的苦。欲望是苦的根源,再加上無明,對真相的無知理解,在執著的觀念驅使下產生種種無明欲望,生出種種惡業,因果循環,再墮輪迴之苦。人們往往誤認為現在所住的軀殼及其思想是一個真實的個別的存在,那欲望及業亦必隨身。「我」是藉着軀殼與感官的結合下由意識生成。當「我」被生成,「你」和「他」亦會相應地存在從而確立「我」的存在。至此,為了保護一已利益,欲望與對抗亦由此發生。在佛教無常論的限制下,這個「我」並不是一個真實的存在。世間萬事萬物每時每刻皆處在變化當中,遵循成,住,壞,空,及生,住,異,滅的規律,沒有永恆固定的常態。這個「我」從內至外的每時每刻皆處在變化當中,那一刻的「我」是我?再者,下一世的「我」還是上一世的「我」嗎?
有些人不了解佛法因果的道理,誤以為佛教是宿命論。其實不然。宿命論認為人生的命運高低起跌,是由某種更高權力如神明所預先決定,具有人力無法扭轉的絕對性。因果論主張的是改變命運。人一生的果報是由自己造出來的,其間不涉及任何神明的預先安排。這和宿命論的觀點恰恰相反。因果論時常提到的三世時段,前世種因,今世得果,今世的因,將成下世的果。其實,這三世並不是三個獨立時段,而是將一個時段推進至無量化及持續化。或許,將三世解讀成過去,現在與未來會比較容易理解這三世為一個持續的時間段。至此,有些人或會質疑若這三世不是三個獨立的時間段,那上世所作的業因會在何時報果。因果報應可能出現於下一刻,或下一個輪迥下之人生, 這取決於因緣與時機。因緣是從過去的因果與現在的造作疊加而成,而果報則出現於當因緣和合下所創造的條件成熟時。佛教相對上比較着重於當下,因為我們無法對過去所造下的業因作任何刪改。末來則基本不曾存在,這只不過是一個虛無時段人們用作對自身的願望的投影。再者,當末來到來時已是現在。所以,當下這一刻是我們唯一的擁有。當下的每一句說話,每一個念頭,每一個選擇與造作,疊加上之前的業因,將決定着我們下一刻的命運,末來的果報。
透過對自身及身邊人事的觀察,不難發現欲望與對錯的交集持續不斷地左右着我們的人生。在人生的維度下,萬事皆發生於相對立之間,好與壞,對與錯,有或無。不然,英雄不會憑空出現,若然邪惡不曾存在。對立有其客觀性及必然性的存在,事物透過對立產生鬥爭,從而推動事物的運動,變化與發展。選擇從對立中產生,人們每時每刻的選擇決定着後續的變化和發展,成長於混沌墮落或精進向上亦由此生起貫串着人生的一切過程始終。選擇權亦是對宿命論者對佛教與業的誤解的最佳反駁。佛學下的事物,既是因果,亦是無常。命運是可以從人們通過每時每刻的努力而改變的。
經年閱讀下來,似懂非懂,除了幾碗心靈雞湯,每天生活如常無明無數,貪瞋癡更是隨身携帶。看來,我離大徹大悟仍差十萬八千里。好吧,既然慧根末長,那就放棄吧。不!既然佛曰,世間事物皆遵循成,住,壞,空,和生,住,異,滅的規律。既是無常,亦是因果。再者,既要滅還要歸空,何不釋懷。那就繼續吧,若今生緣末到便將所學一二帶到下個循環,待緣到再起時,必有所得。
從就學到就業,曾涉足不同工種,不論副業或全職。繼有玩具業,建築,平面設計,產品設計,網站設計和三維建築繪圖等。這個網站收錄着我個人近期的作品。藉着對人性的刻畫作為引信,從而誘發觀者的迴響。當然,我並不奢求觀者對我作品的認同。只希望觀者能本着一個中庸心看待我的作品,看待身邊發生的事物。人類的造作是思想與行為的叠加與和合而成,一環接着一環,有其前因與後果。畢竟,漣漪不會從無中生起。



Buddhism is not about belief and worship, but about revealing the truth of human life in various aspects relating to the nature of the human mind. The truths begin with the revelation that the presence of suffering is the nature of existence, it manifests in physical form in birth, aging, sickness, and death, and in the mental state caused by unfulfilled desires. Desire is deemed the origin of suffering, particularly along with the misconception triggered by ignorance, which deteriorates our understanding of the nature of things and thus motivates negative intentions and actions. The deeds we commit during our lives then accumulate as our karma, which leads to the consequences in the later course of our present life, otherwise, they are carried over into our next life. The life we live every day is probably the best proof of the correlation between suffering and desires. There is no forgiveness for the evil karma we have made by confession, but our own salvation by eliminating the desire to end the effects of karma to the point of ceasing reincarnation, which requires right action and thought, and above all, understanding the concept and distinction of “me” and “no-self” is essential.
The "me" is a false sense of self that our mind creates based on the composition of the physical body and mental components. This fabricated illusion separates the "me" and the "you" as two entities. Once the "me" is perceived as an independent and permanent entity, the consciousness of the "me" is then built to protect its own interests from the "other," leading to interactions with the "other", creating desire and conflict. There is no existence of a "me" in the sense of the Buddhist principle of impermanence that the existence of any phenomenon is subject to constant change and undergoes a succession of stages from birth to death; no permanent self or being remains unchanged and lasts forever. The appearance of the "me" in this life is merely composed of body, mind, senses, and perception of existence, this "me" is considered impermanent as it changes from time to time due to the development of the mind and physical form, in this sense each moment of the "me" is considered a "me", and when this "me" reaches the stage of death and a new "me" reincarnates with a new body and new components. Is this successor “me” still the “me” that was? The delusion of being a "me" is the greatest obstacle that prevents us from eliminating desire; on the contrary, it is rather the medium that generates and harbors desire.
There is a skepticism towards Buddhism that misinterprets it as fatalism, according to which the things that happen in life are predetermined and therefore inevitable. This is not a correct understanding of Buddhism and karma. The idea of karma is not simply a dead loop suggesting repetition, but rather it suggests change. In other words, a person's destiny is determined not only by his past karma but coupled with the decisions made in the present. Buddhism emphasizes focusing on the present moment because the past no longer exists and therefore cannot be amended, the future is merely an illusion projected by hopes and dreams, and it has not yet occurred. The present moment is the only time frame in which we can make a difference. Every word we say, every intention and action we take, and every decision we make at this moment counts as our karma and is stacked on top of our past karma, affecting our future - the next moment. Our future is shaped by what we do now, not by fate.
At the beginning of my study of Buddhism, it was as if a bunch of foreign concepts buzzing up and down in my head, some of the concepts were rather metaphysical and left me in a fog. Little did I know if I understood Buddhism fully and correctly, but the core of it is that Buddhism is not about praying or making offerings, but self-empowerment and spiritual growth to free ourselves from suffering without relying on any external savior or deity.
Throughout my career, I have worked in a variety of design fields including the toy industry, graphic design, architecture, product design, web portals, and 3D architectural visualization. On this website, I present my current personal artwork. Some of the artworks reflect my understanding of human nature, inspired by Buddhist teachings and my own observations, hoping to perhaps trigger a sense of moderation in the viewer, even if it is directed against mine. After all, everything happens for a reason. Behind every event that happens around us, there is always a sequence of causes and consequences, all of which are closely linked.
